Maine Working on Crocker Mountain Management Plan

Jul 16, 2014

CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine — Maine officials are crafting a management plan for the use of the 12,000-acre Crocker Mountain Public Lands Unit in Franklin County.

Officials say the lands will be addressed in two areas, one of which will be the 8,000-acre Crocker Mountain area west of Sugarloaf Mountain. The rest of the management plan will concern the Rapid Stream area south of Sugarloaf and north of Mount Abraham.

Officials say the Crocker Mountain unit encompasses a 9.7-mile section of the Appalachian Trail corridor. They say they anticipate about 4,000 acres will be designated as an ecological reserve.

State officials will hold a public meeting about the management plan on July 22 at 6 p.m. at the Carrabassett Valley Public Library in Carrabassett Valley.
