Power Outages Following Storm
PORTLAND, Maine (AP) _ Hurricane Arthur is gone but its effects are still rippling through New England, where 16,000 homes and businesses in Maine and 2,100 customers in Vermont are without power.
The winds and heavy rains associated with Arthur brought down trees and wires throughout the region.
Emera Maine, the state's biggest utility, says crews are working around the clock to restore service from Caribou to Stonington and Corinna to Lubec. After getting outages down to about 4,000 Saturday morning, the number surged and was at 16,000 at 4 p.m. The company warns that continued strong winds could slow restoration.
In Vermont, about 2,100 customers served by Green Mountain Power remained without electricity Saturday evening.
